Now that I've got my 1999 pretty much the way I want it, thanks to the help of many of you, there are few minor details I want to take care of during the winter.

The previous owner must have had boots with some sort of buckle that rubbed against a portion of the foot peg bracket. No one would notice but I notice this scuffing all of the time!

I want to remove the brackets and have them refinished.

However, I soon realized that the swingarm pivot bolt runs through these brackets.

I just want to plan how to deal with this. I was thinking I would use a rod that was the same diameter as the bolt and push the bolt out and then remove the brackets. This would keep the swingarm on and aligned. I have no reason to drop the swingarm right now.

I guess another option is to find a used bolt to use temporarily but just remove the nut, remove that side bracket and push the current bolt through that side and remove the other side bracket. Then, reverse when reassembling. While I am there, I will clean up the bolt and put a coating of grease on it.

Any reason why this wouldn't work? Any advice would be appreciated. I assume I can reuse the bolt and nut. The manual did not talk about these being one time use nor did they talk about loctite.

I suppose if I was gonna do the bracket refinish and not want to drop the swing arm, I would do something like the rod approach. Set it up on the centerstand and stick a block of wood under the tire so it wont move when you start screwing with the swing arm bolt. I would have a buddy on hand to help too.

    Good luck,
    MD
