I've searched and read the posts about rain gear but my question is slightly different. I want to know what's the best foldable rain gear. Something that compresses into a small area for easy storage.

I already have a water resistant jacket I wear for day trips so I don't need to worry about a sudden shower. But what I'm looking for is something I can use for longer trips where space is at a premium but I want that extra layer of protection when it starts to come down.

I've been told to use the cheap PVC suits that you can buy that are already folded into a tiny ziplock. But I've found those to shred at speed or even when you're putting them on over your regular gear. And a suit with a hole in it isn't that water proof.

So it comes down to... is there a light, reusable, packable, two peice, rain suit anyone would suggest?

I have the Teknic (or is it Tecnik) 2 piece. Like KC-10 says though I tried the size recommended and found it far too small to wear over a suit. So went a size larger. However I have found that the 2 piece keeps me drier than a popcorn fart and it is easy to put on. Because you are ordering a size larger, the pants tend to come up to your chest so no room for leakage there. BTW, I commute year round Fraser River Valley, west coast of Canada. The climate is similar to Seattle but wetter. The commute is via freeway and about 100 miles return. If I stay dry, I think you will too.

Guess what. It is raining now.

    Cheers

Randy, how small does it fold up. That's actually one of my biggest concerns (second to staying dry). I want something that I can fold/roll up that takes as little space as possible.

I'm not worried ablout external pockets, armor, or frills of any type. Just something to scrunch up and shove in a saddle bags for touring.

Frogg Toggs, I just get a size larger than my heaviest jacket.

My friend actually wore em to golf in since rain was intermittent.

    +...
    Thin as paper
    100% waterproof
breathable and most excellent for TN humid summers
Offered in a "see me" orange
    Packs very small

    -...
Your ankles may get wet depending upon your boot choice

I agre with the Frog Togs as well. I bought a rain suit from them last week. Best $39 I have ever spent. Its super water-proof and feels like fabric. Should fold very easily.:third:

I know this is an older thread but could you tell me which model of Frogg Toggs you got? There seem to be all kinds of options available.

    Thanks in advance?

Whatever material you buy, I would highly recommend a two-piece suit.

This is much easier to live with when you go into a restaurant and want

to take off the top. The pants are a bitch to remove.

I have used a two-piece Hein Gericke rain suit for many years

    and it works quite well.

I have the Alpinestars RJ-5 Rain Jacket and RP-5 Rain Pants. You can compress them pretty well and speaking from experience they work rather well. Road for 6 hours through a constant downpour last June and they kept me dry. Both of them fit inside my manta tank bag, but it is a tight fit.

I have a two-piece rain suit that I roll up (about 3" diameter and 10" long). +1 on the two piece! Much easier on and off, especially when nature urgently calls. Just remember to pull the pants ALL THE WAY back up when done (a humorous experience, for others anyway, that I won't relate).

A buddy of mine said his Frogg Toggs compress to about the size of a pop can.

Well since my last post here, I rode from Chilliwack to Atascadero California. First two days on the road going and last two on the road coming home it rained hard. They only place I got wet was my hands. The Teknic suit kept me dry...totally. Helped keep the heat from the gerbings liners inside next to the body too. But it is PVC rubber based so it weighs about3 pounds or so. Folds or rolles up quite well in my back pack, tank bag or soft luggage, whichever I am using at the time. Here is the one I have:Teknic Jet Stream 2pc Rainsuit - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore

I have the Fieldsheer Sugo Max one piece suit. I had a Tour Master Elite and it sucked. Wet croth syndrome! The Sugo Max folds into it's own internal pouch, but I simply fold it up to about the size of a laptop and toss it in my side case. Now, I do seem to recall that Aerostich had some compact options, but for the price of the jacket on aerostich, you can get a whole one-piece suit. The Sugo Max can be found for less than $50. It lasts, and it works. I hear Frog Togs are good, but I am not a fan of two-piece rain gear. Water runs down the back of your butt and soaks you through. I wear the Sugo Max over my jeans and shirt, but you can wear gear under it too, I just prefer not to when I commute.

I'd go to a military discount store and get some fatigue wet weather gear. Two piece, zipper on legs with a velcro strap that keeps water from jumping up your pant leg, velcro strap on sleeve cuffs too and you can just cut off or tuck in the hood. I use that when I go to do Army stuff in the rain, and I've used it to ride around in the rain while in uniform. Works great.. I have a civilian suit to with suspenders and such, cost me around $50 for the two piece and works fairly well, cept the interior netting on the jacket tends to latch onto any velcro in sight like metal to magnets.
