I need to replace tires on the 86 vf500 and would like to just bring in the wheels...
problem is that there isn't a good place under the bike to place the jack.
The exhaust pipes pass under the frame directly under the engine, and I am not about to use the pipes as a jack surface.

So my question is how do you do this? A special bike jack? Remove the exhaust? I am interested in knowing how others get around this issue.

    Thanks in advance

remove the chin fairing and use a floor jack with a piece of plywood under the oil pan.

Doing that dosnt seem like it would be stable enough, but if that's what works for you maybe I will try it.

The oil pan isnt flat and isnt very long. It dosnt seem like the motorcycle would balance on that area. I would post a picture but I dont currently have a camera

Put a piece of plywood under the oilpan with a jack stand supporting the bike, with the centerstand down take off the front wheel. Put a jack with a 2x4 under the front fork(where the wheel just was), then remove the rear wheel.

If your garage has rafters, you can just hang the bike from those using ratchet straps. I do that if I need to pull both wheels on the SV650. On the 6gen interceptor, front stand and center stand are enough.
