Hello out there vfr world ! Iam working on 1985 vfr 700f does anyone know the carb float setting ? i have float gauge thank you .
There is two measurements . Float drop, Carb right side up. AND Float level- Carb upside down. To find this out and how to measure it is in the workshop manual. It is not needed to measure the float level, UNLESS... someone messed them up. Read that again. Just replace the float needle and do not mess with the float adjustment at all.
I disagree. I always check float level anytime carbs are apart on V4's, if you replace parts it's more important yet. Because of the angle of the carbs, it's not really obvious until you measure it...unlike carbs that sit level. It's seldom that one or two levels don't need a bit of 'tweaking', sometimes you find one way off. Sure sucks to have the pull the carbs again to do what was easy and accessible previously. Not sure exactly what your spec is...usually from 7.5 to 8.5mm. I lay the carbs sideways...when the 'tang' of the float just contacts the spring pin on the float needle without depressing it is when measurement is made. The distance you're measuring is from the mating surface of the float bowl to the bottem of the float.
From the Honda shop manual: Carb inclined 15º - 45º from vertical and the float tang in contact with the float valve. Float LEVEL 7.5mm or .30 (three hundred thousandths) That is for the Honda VF1000F AND the VF1000R
FLOAT LEVEL Measure the float level with the carburetor inclined 15 to-45degrees from vertical and the float tang just contacting the float valve. FLOAT LEVEL: 7.0 mm (0.28 in) Adjust the float level by carefully bending the float tang -source - 83-85 VF700f-750f Honda shop manual
NOW this forum is giving out SOLID information on how to do things correctly. We can all learn from it. This is good.
thanks everybody I guess I forgot to mention that Iam installing new floats in all 4 carbs, Because two of the floats came apart, Thats why I needed info THEY HAVE TO BE CHECKD ! worked on enought bikes to know that, besides its a bxxch to do on the bike. "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE"
4 new floats or 4 new float needles? The floats do not usually go bad. Did they have gas INSIDE them?
