Can anyone throw some light on this one? I don't know why the spring came off but I suspect that a pal that helped dismantle the bike for a lot of work did it with good intent.

However, I now have started to re-assemble it with the rear suspension and rear wheel still to be fitted I thought it would be simple to do it with all of the rear apart but I just can't stretch the double spring enough.

Does it require removal of centre stand and spring fitted before wrestling the stand back on does anyone know?

What are you wrestling it with? You need to be on your ass with a spring puller and the stand "up". Well, at least I need to be.

You can also lengthen the spring with nickels, pennies or washers by bending it back and forth and inserting them.

I tried with string but I'm not strong enough. Perhaps it's easier with the stand up? I can't do that yet as I still have to put the rear shock back and the rear wheel plus a lot else after replacing the rear exhaust pipes. I figured that it would be easier while apart but seems not.
Funnily enough I tried bending the spring back and forth in the vice but screw driver blades fall out too easily as it's a double spring. I never have coins these days so never thought about using coins. I guess there's no secret method then...

Wait until the stand can be up (as stated) and get the right tool (as stated).
