Starter clutch problem is avoidable....read on to know more
Starter clutches break because as the starter begins to turn the engine the first cylinder that fires can kick back against the starter motors massive torque - the weak link in the chain is the starter clutch.
The solution is for the engine to be spinning first,THEN kick in the spark to fire it up.
    SO...
a)flick the 'kill' switch to the off position
b)thumb the starter to spin up the motor
    c)flick the kill switch on
the momentum of the crank's spin will overcome the tendency to kick back.
OK,it's a bit of a faff about, but starter clutches are now discontinued for a lot of earlier VFR's
If you can get one they're around £180,plus fitting....I'd rather faff about!

Erm,anyone got a spare starter clutch for my mates FK?(seriously!)Pref in the UK

    Cheers chaps
