Hello all. Just picked up a very clean 85 vf500. I've had dirt bikes and ATVs but this is my first road bike. Always wanted one since my brother's best friend bought one new back in 85/86, but I've been more into cars/boats/etc. My b-day was coming up so I started searching ebay/craigslist etc and hoped to find one within a few months. Lucky me I found a SUPER CLEAN one, runs GREAT, with 38000km, on craigslist about 7 miles from me two weeks into my search!!

I want to lose the rear fender, lower the mirrors, and get some different pipes/exhaust, so now my ebay/craigslist searches are gonna be for V&H or Yoshi exhaust

    Anyway here's pics.

    Welcome!

Nice find! That looks like a REALLY clean bike! I hope that mine looks somewhere even close to that good one day!

Good luck on the search for exhaust! When you do find something, plan for it to be pretty pricey!

Nice looking clean stock bike. IMHO, I would leave it stock, or at least make

sure you keep all the stock items when you remove them. So, you want to remove

the rear fender.......wait until you ride in the rain and then see if you want to remove it.

    Remember.....stock is king (almost).

Thanks for the compliments guys, yeah I'm thrilled I scored such a nice example. I'm in Montreal, the guy had it on craigslist Montreal, he lives in Laval, right down the road from me. FYI I paid 1300 Canadian, and that's right after the guy had the carbs cleaned/oil changed/plugs changed at the dealer (he paid around 300 for all that).

I'll for sure take off the rear fender, not sure how many times I'll be using it in the rain. I am working on something that'll take care of that anyway (I've got a MacGuyver-ish idea for a hidden/sliding fender extension in my head....).

PCohen, your's looks pretty cool, what exactly did you do, and where's your flashers??

Thanks mtl! The bike didn't have blinkers when I bought it so I'm not sure where they are!

To do that mod I cut off the "lip" of the tailpiece, cut about an inch out of the fender (to bring the light forward) and then I flipped the light up side down and bolted it back to the origonal bracket.
