I bought my 2002 VFR about a month ago and since then it has been mocking me from the garage. I was going to wait till the spring until I put the insurance on it and had cancelled the insurance on my GS850 at that time.
This week I got a letter from the insurance company stating that I owed a couple of hundred still. Long story short it didn't cost me any more to put the insurance on now that it would have if I waited to the spring. So I did!
Today I got a chance to ride it.... It was fkn cold, we have a freezing rain warning out right now, I didn't care!
First thing I noticed... It actually has a throttle response, I didn't know I was missing that.
Wow! what a blast it is to ride. I haven't ridden a newer bike in years, just my old '83 Suzuki. I froze most of my extremities in the short ride, I didn't care.
It was smooth, quiet ( maybe a little too quiet) and comfortable and when I noticed that the outside temp said -9 C, I switched it to show the engine temp instead.
I'm not sure if I have a problem with my helmet fit but I think the problem was that the sides of my mouth were touching my ears! It's been a while since I smiled and grinned that much.
Sadly, now it is back in the garage and winter is about to hit....I hope there are a few mild days coming at least.

Know exactly how you feel, I've only got about 500km on a 2010 I picked up a couple of weeks ago. I traded in a VStrom 1000 and I can't stop smiling either. I'm just down the road, close to Ottawa, looks like our season might be over. My fingers are crossed for this Friday, it's supposed to be above zero. Can't wait to see how this thing corners when the pavement is hot.

Have fun. I have ridden in those temps on the freeway many times but I have the right gear. Regardless, after an hour of that I am usually quite happy to be home brewing up a nice hot buttered rum.
