Hi, yesterday I picked up my new 05 VFR 800A. Its my first VFR and I got a demo model with 1800klms on the odo. I have 2 questions. 1. One of the footpegs is missing the bolt/slider piece that sticks down which slides on the ground first on cornering. When this bolt drags the ground is that just about the limit of traction? In other words should I get one or remove the other side to match? 2. The bike comes with oem Dunlop 204's how good are these tires in the dry/wet? At 49yo I am not the kind of rider that pushes the bike to the limit but I'm just curious how much grip I have. Thanks
Congratulations on the new ride! The feelers that you are refering to are just an indicator to give you a warning that you are getting near the limits of traction available in average street conditions but they are very conservative. I have removed mine and I have since ground down the pegs themselves and the rear brake pedal. There is still more traction available but I have run out of clearance but that was in a track environment. On the street 99% of the time you do not hit them. I have run Dunlop 207s 208ZRs and now the new qualifier with very satisfactory results on all of them. The 204 I would expect to be a little harder for longer life and as a result, a tad less grip. Tires are always a compromise between life and traction.
D204K's suck... Big time... I know, ther're on my bike right now. Soon to be replaced with either Qualifier's or Pilot Power's, I haven't decided which yet. The biggest short coming of the D204K: it handles downright spooky when cold. I was on the Dragon in May and it was in the low 50's. The front end of my bike was all over the place. When it's hot, it's not as bad but you can still tell they aren't a very good tire. I will say this, they seem to last forever. My front tire is 6 years old and has no noticable wear. KC-10 FE out...
