Great looking site here - well done!

I am asking for your help so I can in turn help my next door neighbor who has helped me on various projects in the past. He recently purchased a 1984 V30 Magna for very little in hopes of getting it running. Although not an Interceptor, I believe it shares the same 500 V4 engine available in these bikes in the mid 80's. I am unable to locate any Magna specific forums, so hopefully you guys can lend a hand.

There appears to be a fuel problem that prevents the bike from running. All four plugs fire. The previous owner replaced the fuel pump and replaced the needles and seats in the carbs without luck - which is where I suspect the problem lies. I remember stories back in the day of these carbs being quite sensitive to adjustments - especially the wrong ones.

If anyone could take minute to steer us in the correct direction it would be greatly appreciated. Any knowledge is welcome. If anyone is aware of a V30 Magna specific forum/database, that information would be quite helpful also, in addition to service manuals, how to's, tips, etc.

    Thanks in advance...

How long did it sit for and have you cleaned the carbs?

The story passed on to me is as follows:

Earlier this spring the bike ran but idled in the 4000 RPM range as if the choke was stuck. Previous owner took the bike to a backyard mechanic and had the carbs cleaned and rebuilt. Bike started momentarily but then stalled - has never started since.

A new fuel pump was then tried on the bike without luck. There is a fuel line that exits from the fuel pump and enters the carb assembly on the left side of the engine (when sitting on the bike). We assumed this was the "feed" line to the carbs since there is an inline fuel filter there. When the line is removed from the filter, fuel does pulse from the line when the engine is turned over - hence one could assume the carbs are at least getting fuel. Plugs are not wet after cranking engine.

Located in Eastern Canada. I have to work tomorrow but I'll be sure to pass along the message in case he wants to try before I get home.

I'll update this every so often as things develop. Feel free to monitor and give advice as it is very appreciated!

    Thanks...

The bike fired up momentarily, but didn't stay alive for long.

Neighbor removed the bowls and found two of the carbs had damaged floats. He described them as "they looked like they were cleaned with a wire brush".

Carb tear down and rebuild is now in the cards. If someone has the factory specs for the carbs, it would be greatly appreciated.

How to's / service manual links relating to the matter also welcome.

    Thanks

P.S> What is the normal cylinder compression (psi) for the 500cc V4?
