After I machined wider wheels to fit, I made a upper/lower chain guards, machined/welded, reduced size/weight of old magna alum muffler brackets (did away with black tubing brackets w/rear pegs), welded/machined link mount for F3 Shock and made a custom remote shock reservoir, did the ducati steering damper mounts a while back and a few other goodies not in pic. Cleaned up the front no more speedo cable, did mods to fit 91 VFR countershaft speedo drive and powder coated new case/slave, rebuilt slave and did all chrome bolts on all engine covers and other misc, Blackbird fairing bolts for the fairing, fender and cowl, Blackbird footpegs, front honeycomb grill in fairing lower front.

Please don't say it's too hot to ride. I would give my left ball for some warm weather right now! Seriously though, nice work on the bike man.

Nice work! Great photos, thank you for the post.

If I could ask, could you please go into a bit more detail, in regards to the custom reservoir?

For now the stock F3 reservoir is inside, when I rebuild the shock in the future I'm going to mod it with a larger bladder, shraeder valve and rebound adjuster with a knob, maybe seperate high/low speed dampening.

Okay, thanks. Would you mind posting a detail photo of the custom carrier? I'd be interested to see how you fabricated this and how you mounted it to the frame.

Here's some pics, allso mounted RR under rear cowl...never liked it near the fuel pump, I have my spare in the original location, they wire connectors reach fine. Mounted my spare CDI on the other side. My pocket camera's not great but you can click on the large pics to enlarge to full size.

I really wanted to mount the HESD after having it on my DRZ400E for a couple months now, it works sweet, I wired a ESC type controller range 0 volts to 8 volts max damp (total cost $30 plus fabrication time), rotary knob by throttle controls steering dampning. But on the VFR my GPS is where it would go. The Ducati damper (last pic) is just right anyhow, night and day difference having a steering damper.

Nicely done. I really like the idea of screening the vents on the side panels and fairings. I might have to do that to mine. Thanks for sharing.

Office supply places and Wallyworld have some nice black and silver mesh (screen) look at the office trash cans and desk document holders.

    That is a beautiful bike

I don't know if I will ever be able to compete with skills and talents of some of you guys. I was a machinist for 18 years and a mechanical designer for the past 15 and still am put away and amazed of the talent that I find on the web.
    Great work

There are 3 screews that hold the mount block to it, the middle one goes thru like a set screew to hold the res in.

    Here's the 98 F3 Shock I installed.

    Nice work.

I have an F4i shock with a remote reservoir on my 500. The reservoir is currently 'installed' with zip ties which looks a bit unfinished. I like your idea of making a sleeve which is secured to the frame rail. This is looks well thought out and way better than zip ties, even though zip ties are pretty excellent.

    Kudos!

Haha, I bought the same mounting kit for mine.

Sleeve frame rail mount looks fantastic! Beautiful bike!

There is a market for your chain guards! Any chance of selling me one?
