Hey everybody New member here. This weekend I finally bought a 1st gen 750. It has a couple of issue's, but I am hoping that I can cherry this thing out. I have wanted one since they first came out and I saw Fast Freddy Spencer on one. So I can't wait to get her right. It is rideable now. but I am going to wait until I can find a shop that really knows these bikes. If I am going to invest good money I want make sure that it is spent at a reputable shop that knows old school bikes. anyway great site. I will keep you updated on my progress.

You are a stones throw from me. Ride over and let me take a look at it. I do not charge for services but do take beer donations.

Please don't take offense a what I'm about to say.

Good luck on finding someone. Not many old school mechanics out there that actually know what they are doing. Let alone on an 1 gen Interceptor. Most dealers won't touch them and if they do then expect big $$$. Which brings up how deep are your pockets?? How much do you want to dump in to this bike?? Pay for labor of $40 - $80 bucks an hour will set you back even if the work is done right.

Bikes of that age will get/have problems that are not hard to fix, just time consuming. You can still find a lot of OEM parts at decent prices for old bikes. I know cause I maintain one. Mine.

Now the best thing you can do right now is take Toecutter up on his offer. When owning a first gen you need old guys who know about them to teach you. Plus his connections.

    Ok Squirrelman your next.

no one knows these bikes better or is more trust worthy than TC. Ride that thing over there and have him take a peek.

Congratulations. What are your intentions with this bike? Will it be a runner or are you looking to restore / preserve it? I've got a lot of money into my '86 lineup but it was for restoration purposes. All 3 bikes are road worthy, but see little or no time at all.

Hey TC I'll definitely take you up on that. It has a little valve tick in the rear right cylinder.. So I am inclined to think valve adjustment. I would love it if you could help me with it. oh and beer that won't be a problem. When you take a look just let me what kind you like. PM me an let me know when it is a good time to get together. and I'll load it up in my truck and haul it over. Dont want to ride it and damage the engine. I would actually like to cherry this thing out its in pretty good condition. I think a great bike to build up.

    Thanx

    Welcome!

    Sound advice above.

I would also add building your library with a copy of the Factory Service Manual and, if interested in a VF carburetor rebuild, Mike Nixon's tech manual. Both are must haves for working on these bikes.

For hard to find NOS parts David Silver Spares in the UK is a great source.

Good luck with your project and please post a few photos of the rebuild along the way.

Congrats, I just bought my 86 750 a couple months ago and can't wait to get it road worthy. I remember seeing them at the dealership and begging my dad to buy one. At the time I was only 14, and now I finally have one!!
