Finally got around to installing a 929CBR rear shock on my 1998 VFR. The bike has 80,000 miles on it and I started to notice the rear end not absorbing the road as much. I've owned this bike since 2003 since it had 5000 miles. Read a bunch of posts and pictorials on the swap and decided to tackle it. Got the shock for $35 incl. shipping from Fleabay. Took about 2 hours total to change out with making of the bracket and installing it. The only modification to the bike I had to make was to trim the hard plastic flap on the forward facing side of the battery box. I trimmed about 1" by 3" section off and it gave me the extra room and everything bolted right up. I used a stainless 3/8 x 5" bolt from ACE and cut it down to bolt the bracket and shock to the top of the frame under the tank. My recommendations for anyone doing this swap would be to spray some PB Blaster on all bolts the night before and to use some liquid soap on the frame and shock tunnel where the shock passes thru the frame to make installment easier. I noticed a much firmer ride and the rear is also a bit taller since installation. I just have to get the stiffness dialed in but what a much better ride on the VFR now.
