The manual says not to go above the plate that is under the opening ... but that leaves a ton of air space. I wouldn't overfill and then park it, but when I am about to set off for a few hundred, what's it going to hurt to go halfway up to the bottom of the opening? It still leaves lots of air, and I'll burn it down in the next 30 minutes.

Anyone see why this is a bad idea? Makes it a lot easier to get 200 to a tank.

I always fill mine to just below the brim. Never an issue.

I never pay attention to any of that shit in the manual either. WTF do those dudes that build the bikes know that I don't?

Gas expand during temp and elevation change, they just want to be safe to avoid problem with the fuel delivery. If you not riding in extrem weather or elevation you are fine. Ride on and stop worry be happy

In CA we have vapor recovery nozzles, when I fill up, I manually pull the jacket back to let gas flow, and watch till it get right to the rim. No problem.

^ wut he sed aboove, I had a CA model in NJ  :loco: It had that :bs: charcoal canister that got wet when you over filled the tank, also got screwed up if you dropped the bike, (don't ask.)
They warned you right on the petrol tank not to fill into the filler neck. I learned years later that once one of those canisters was wet from petrol, your basically screwed. My CA bike was a disaster that never ran correctly, (whole other story here.)

I fill my tanks right up to the rim for what ever its worth.

If guys are filling up to the plate under the filler rim no wonder I hear all the complaints about only getting 130 to 140 miles per tank. After filling to the bottom of the filler rim I Ran back roads yesterday. When I pulled in last night the clock had 164 miles and the gas gauge was showing 2 bars.

Honda may be worried about liability from damage caused by owners overfilling and having gas overflow the fill opening?
