    Hello all,

the bike is a '98' VFR with 34k mi...
well let me get straight to the point. bike stalled after coming up drive, oil light remained on, started right back up no prob, warmed up next day went down drive, stalled again, same oil light, started back up, rode on. noticed a non-steady throttle, then FI light comes on. went home (all within 10mi).
coded bike to find out its code 1 map sensor (connection failure, or map sensor failure.) the big problem for me at this point is i have no idea where the map sensor is????
    any help is appreciated.

It's attached to the air filter housing.

1 flash. Was it short or long? Short would be as fast as you can blink. Long, is about 1.5 - 2 seconds long. That equals 10 short flases which is the BARO sensor located (if seated) right rear behind the plastic.

You probably have a loose connection. on which ever one it is.

    FI Light...

In a very delayed, but possibly useful update:

in my inability to fix the problem myself, the mechanic i used (which was great, but due to high volume of repeat loyal customers ill keep on the DL) went nuts trying to isolate the problem, and finally drew on past experience (when he raced GSXr's) as AMA racers do... searched the computer box for moisture, and FOUND IT! how water got there, i still don't know. but the ol' VFR is running like a champ, and no light!...hope that can help someone Else's headache.

    -enjoy the ride.

    Strider,
Sounds much like the head ache I just went through. I cleared the code and went with the ole "I will just watch it for a while" theme. When you say computer box are you talking about the ECM in the tail section?

Ya, I should probably smear Dielectric grease on the ECM tabs.

    Mikeym,
Since I have cleared the codes it has not flashed again. I am going to head into some higher elevations tomorrow and if the BARO is not working right it should set of the light again. I will let you know is it happens.

As for fixing it, I would say try cleaning the connections first then look at replacing the sensor. They are quite pricey though.

Well I cleared the codes and it seems to be running o.k. for me as well...

So you're saying until it malfunctions again the bike will probably run great?

Mine is running great but when I had the FI light come on I had no loss in performance.

Simply clearing the codes does not cure any issues that you might have, it just takes the existing code out of the ECM. Based on your past posts and the issues you have been having you may still have some problems.

I have not had anymore codes since the initial one. I did however pull all of the connections lose from the BARO and reseated them.

Sorry I could not be more help.
