Well, after 10 years of riding I had my first accident on Friday. After a driver blew through a stop sign and entered my lane, he purposely rammed into me as I was going (escaping) around him to the left! After that, he flipped a u-turn and left the scene!! I was very fortunate that, after he rammed me, I was able to keep control of the bike and stay up-right. A combination of luck, experience & skill (mostly luck…). Unfortunately, I ended up with a broken right ankle (both bones) resulting in surgery, a metal plate and six screws - my right leg was sandwiched between my bike and his truck. The complete right side of the bike is trashed (faring/throttle/brake lever & pedal/engine casing/radiator/etc…). The good news is: luck was on my side, I was wearing all of my gear (even in 100 degree weather), my leg will heal, the bike can be fixed, I have insurance and I’ll be riding again as soon as possible! Since I was busy keeping the “rubber side down,” I only got a basic description of the vehicle/driver and no plate. Since he ran and no witnesses have come forward - he probably got away with it (could have been drunk, didn’t have insurance, had 2 strikes or just plain panicked?).

Like I said - I’ll heal, the bike will get fixed (or replaced if it’s totaled) and life will go on…

That sucks man. I broke my left ankle last year. The Talus bone to be exact, which is the worst bone you can break in the ankle, so I am told. Sorry to hear you had to have surgery.Heal fast, heal well. Maybe they will find the vehicle that has a boot and peg imprinted in it.

That really sucks, Par, but I'm glad you came out of it so well. I haven't been hit riding my motorcycle, but I was hit riding my bicycle in San Diego years ago, after many years and many, many thousands of miles of riding. I was definitely skittish for a while when I started riding again, especially when circumstances resembled those in which I was hit. I hope you get to ride again soon, but be patient with yourself if it turns out to be more daunting then you expect.

That Ba$#@^d will get his eventually. Some day, some where, some how. You may not be aware of it but it will happen. Heal up and get back on that bike and keep the spirit alive. I hope this never happens to me but if it ever does, I hope I can follow my own advise.

Glad to hear that you survived. Things could have definately been worst. Glad to see that you will be returning to 2 wheels. Many riders give it up after even the slightest altercation. Heal well!

Man that is awful, I am glad you are ok though. I really think its true that he will get his someday. I find people with bad driving habits like that tend to repeat them often, so someday he will get caught. I hope that all others who cross his/her path are as fortunate as you are.

I'm glad you're looking at the bright side.
The stroy makes my blood boil. What kind of human would leave someone like that! Bet the SOB would leave you for dead if it would have been worse.

About the time you were typing your note about your incident, I got gas at my local Sam's club. An older guy blew a sign in the parking lot right in front of me leaving. I followed him to his parking spot after he blew off one more of two pedestrian crossing stop signs in front of a grocery store. A lady got stopped in her tracks stepping off the curb with her hands full of bags. At least I got a smile out of her as I yelled, "So your not stopping for that one either" towards the dudes open window.

He got a piece of my mind after he spent a few seconds contemplating even getting out of his car, seeing me wating.

A$$HOLES everywhere! Unfortunately the best of skill can't avoid them all.

Hope you heal well. Be good.

Hey Shorty. I know what you mean but lets not lose sight of this. The blowing of the sign could be bad driving habits,. The run at another person is a deliberate act of aggression. I would suggest it was a criminal act, or in your words down there a felony assault or worse. It is extremely good that PAR518 was not hurt bad, but is is also extremely too bad that this SOB was not caught, identified, prosecuted and given the harshest sentence available out there in your world.

    Here I go again....Randy's Rant:soapbox:

Sorry if I was misleading, I would MOST DEFINITELY prefer that this guy was caught right away. It was bad enough he ran the sign, but to deliberately take a run at him? It is just awful.

I meant if this guy is blowing through signs, then his chances of doing the exact same thing is probable and I'd like for him to be caught before having the chance to hurt anyone else.

That's a hair-raising account, PAR518. You survived the biggest fear of any biker out there.

On the up side (if there really is one), if your RWB won't make it, you could be one of the first with a 5-cylinder VFR...
