    1990 VFR750F-

P/O changed the sprockets making my odometer, trip meter, and speedometer 18% fast, I figured this out on the highway using the mile markers. My questions follow:

Can I make a tire change that would compensate back towards true readings? Would it even be worth trying? I'm buying tires soon anyway. What size would I need? Currently 170 / 60 / 17 on the back and 120 / 70 / 17 on the front. I'm aware of speedohealer and GPS for these purposes, I just want my bike to be right.

Also wondering if this sprocket change is the reason my bike is so unwilling to lift the front end up even with great encouragement. I do not want to wheelie but want to know that my machine is running it's best. Are these bikes typically heavy in the front anyway?

Why am I so obsessed with this motorcycle?

I searched the threads first before posting this, could not locate any information on this question. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok speedo healer is for electrical speedos. Gen 3 is mechanical. I have turned over the Internet looking for a gear down for the mechanical gen3 speedo to no avail.

Your only hope is a gps or a conversion to a gen 4 speedo and a speedo healer.

Given the 18 % error it sound like you are running -1 +2 setup and it should be very eager to lift the front. Run up to 9k, chop throttle and than whack it on to stare at the sun

Thanks for the input. Any idea about the tire size question?

hostey, the tire size will only alter it by 1-2% and the hit on handling isnt worth it. I would recommend the standard 120/170. I am currently running a 120/180 and the turn in is a little slower with a little more feel at the limit, but not worth it unless you get a crazy deal on 180s (which I did, Dunlop Q2 delivered for $195 a set). Moving to an electrical speedo is pretty easy - you will need the front sprocket pickup from a Gen4, the harness from the pickup to the dash, a gen4 speedo and of course the speedo healer. You could also install a veypor, koso or something similar, but still will need a speed sensor. They make aftermarket pickups that run off the front tire.

Can anyone suggest the proper sprockets / chain that I should but to run a stock set up? It seems I have a job in Florida, and I'm going to ride from NJ down to West Palm Beach. Need to prepare the bike for travels. So far I know I'm doing tires / sprockets / chain. May buy the extra Regulator / Rectifier just to have on hand, even though I upgraded the wiring and unit within a year. Any other preventative things to check? Thanks.
