Fan Switch at lower temperature?

    With all of the talk about cooling these beasts down, I keep wanting a fan switch that kicks in at a lower temperature. I guess that's too much to ask?

    Any chance one from another bike would work?

    I find a switch on ebay that says it fits and there is a reference to 85 degrees. Even if this is centigrade, it seems low (141). Has anyone tried one of these? I also notice the list of compatible applications is very long and includes CBRs galore. Anyone have information? When I look up an image of the switch, it looks the same as the one on ebay.

    I put an override switch on my fan. I can have it on whenever. Since I live in Phx and hit traffic periodically, I turn it on when I start to slow down. Off when back up to speed.

    85 C is 185 Farenheiht -- easy to remember. -- For awhile I was screwing around looking for a lower than stock fan switch and found one for 194 F - Seems like 210 would be better. - Havent looked for a few years as I dont commute with my bike and even stock I havent seen over 224 since I flushed out the system with new coolant. Been running the super hawk fan and all is well. It really doesnt hot enuff to worry about it. -- Agreed that a manual overide is probly a good way to go. I think I would do that if I lived in hotter climate and bump the oil cooler to a least a 3 row or more.

    Well...no idea how I messed up that conversion. Thanks for the double-check. I can live with 185 all day.

    I like the manual override idea, but a switch that does it for me is more convenient.

    I still want to look at the possibility of a second fan on the right radiator when I get a chance.

    I am also wanting to put an override switch in, but I seem to not be doing something right. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated....2005 vfr 800 Non-ABS.

    1. Located the fan motor switch which is connected to the radiator. (Closes circuit to pass ground through to fan motor when it reaches 220 degrees)
    2. Located the hot 12v wire that comes from the fuse box that is turned on by the ignition which also goes to the fan motor. (Always hot with key on)
    3. put a wire clip (piggie-back) on the wire coming from the fan motor switch in between the switch and the fan motor and then ran the wire to ground.
    4. Turned the key on and started the bike, but the fan will not come on.

    I am pretty good with electronics, but I may be missing something here. This is very simple in theory and I have reviewed the wiring diagrams and see nothing else that would keep me from turning the fan on by taking it to ground without the motor swith (Thermistor) getting to 220 degrees.

    That's the fix i recommend as the manual switch, in parallel with the OEM switch, is the best solution. Engines are designed to run best within a narrow range of temperatures, so running cooler than optimum isn't good.

    if you have a meter a few quick voltage checks will sort that out in a hurry
