Got a '04 where I have been getting a noise from the fan for a while. Haven't had a chance to explore the source, but need to soon. Wondering if perhaps anyone else has had something similar and what the solution was. Maybe it would save me some time. It is a whirring noise, I am thinking maybe the fan is just hitting something, or the motor is going bad. Of course it doesn't help that I am hard of hearing and can't tell sound direction at all, so I can't just take off the plastic and follow the sound
I too have an 04 and it just started making some niose when the fan comes on, the bike has 25,000 miles on it. Mine sounds like a leaf is stuck in the fan or something, going to take a look at it this weekend. Will check back in. I know with cars, alternators and stuff start making noise when the bearings are going bad...
That is what I was gonna say, first to check if some debris is caught in it or something, and if the blades are bent/damaged. If it is clear and undamaged, then I would start looking for something else.
