So I decided to remove the fairing, just to get a feel for it since I'm planning on changing my coolant fluid. It was fairly easy to remove, but sooo many screws. Reassembly took me 2 hrs or so. Managed to break 2 of those plastic clips, the ones that secure the center piece of the fairing to the side panels, break a tab on the inner panel, strip a thread on the lower screw mount of the right panel. Why so many screws! And those plastic trim clips, why do Honda make them so hard to remove & reinstall!
    Just ranting...

Installing r+G sliders will hold the fairing on better than any of those screws

After doing it a couple times its a cake walk. Takes about 8 min to remove and another 10 to install. First timers usually screw up the push clips.

Ya. Those Honda clips suck. But like said, it becomes a cakewalk. I would not replace those push clips with OEM. For what you pay for one oem you can get a pack of 10 from Bolt Fasteners. They fit tight but are better quality and much easier to use. I would post a link but I am away fdom home and am doing this on my phone. The ones you need are the M6 I believe.

+ 1 for what MichaelD said, it takes me around 10 minutes to dismantle, and the same to reassemble.
    All with no brocken bits.

Yeah, after you've done it a few times it goes pretty quickly. I just had mine off to change the oil/filter and took probably 3 minutes to take off and 5 to put back on, with no broken bits. Those plastic clips aren't that bad once you get used to how they work. I use a pair of thin, needle-nose pliers to hold the "wings" together and that makes it a snap to get them back in. And a cordless impact to take the screws out. :biggrin-new:

Ya I even succeeded putting most of them back on right- I have conclude the fasteners suk- and as long as the fairing is working ok-I don't think some of them are really doing anything like the bottom ones-use a zip ti if you have to-never buy them from Honda-they charge ten times what they are worth and they will give you the wrong ones then you find out Honda tech are idiot's!

Thank you fellow forum members for all the replies. I don't feel so stoop anymore! I'll velcro everything the next time...The real pain was putting back the center half cowl. That's when the cursing & broken bits started. I'll get on buying a bunch of those trim tabs you kindly posted...Nice to have some spares.

Every time I put that inner middle cowl piece on (the one that goes behind the front wheel) I always put the bolts in on one half first and tighten them in half way. Then I attach the lower cowl on the other side and the bolt holes line up better for the other half. If you insert a small screwdriver or an awl in one of the lower mid cowl bolt holes the other one lines up fairly easy as well.
