Found these two images online (same bike) with an interesting fairing mounted petcock. It does not appear as though my bike even has a manual petcock. In the Clymer manual (M458-2) on pgs. 290-291 it seems to suggest that as of 1990 there was no longer a manual adjustment - namely a reserve dial. Two questions then - 1) Is there a reserve dial or am I just being daft. 2) Is anyone aware of how I might create a fairing mounted dial as it appears as though there is a spot on my fairing (the red image) just below the end of the bar. I have just purchased this lovely bike and I am working to bring it back to full life - oh the sound! Any suggestions?

That feature may have been a requirement in some places. My USA 91 has the port and a cover but no manual petcock.

Might be fun to put in a dummy manifold pressure gauge in that port.

That is very interesting. I have a hole in that same spot that I have always wondered about. I could never find a fuel switch so I thought that the previous owner removed it for some reason. Now it looks like there was never one there to begin with. Whenever I get low on fuel I wondered if I could switch to reserve but I guess I don't need to worry about that now

I have a 93 VFR by the way.

my 1990 has a manual one but no reserve, just on/off. you need to remove the seat to access it. it is on the left of the tank. those pics with an external mount are overseas models i do believe

So I have been riding since I was knee high to a grasshopper and maybe, just maybe once or twice I might have run low (out of) gas. Turn the old reserve dial and away I go again. Why our 3rd gen does not have a readily accessible dial is beyond me. Might be an interesting OEM mod if I could ever figure out how to do so.

Older grasshopper with some Brit bikes with single petcocks and carburetors, had to tip the bike to one side to get the gas on the right side of the tank. This was back before flat bottom tanks were invented and Moses was mindfucking the Egyptians with even more grasshoppers.

Euro/Aussie only. We have a low fuel light. It comes on, find a gas station - just like on other bikes, if it sputters switch to reserve and find a gas station. Put a Honda voltmeter in there.

    Cheers,
    Glenn
