This may not be in the right section, maybe should be in the first/second gen ssection. A lady I work with asked me this question and I really don't know. I know for $500, I'd jump on it but that's not realistic. I've asked her for pics so can only go by what she tells me. She's the dept supervisor so should be overall reliable, you would hope. It's an 84 VF500, been in storage for about 20yrs and she bought it last year. Payed a mechanic to get it freshened back up. Clean title, 7500 miles, no wrecks. Only left over problem is a leaky petcock as I think they're not rebuildable. She bought a new lexus convertible so now the bike is sitting neglected. She's decent enough of a person to know this isn't right. Anyway, I thougth 1500-2000. thoughts?
That's WAY too much ! For that price you could find a gen 2 and not have to worry about engine problems. Only my opinion, of course. Don't even think of a price until you hear it run well aND IT SHIFTS THROUGH ALL THE GEARS. Just think for a second about all the newer, better, more modern and reliable bikes you could find on CL for what you're prepared to spend !!!
so the first gen 500's had cam failure issues too I guess. I thought that was for the 750's only. Just learned something new today. So since I'm currently at work, I guess that means I can go home now. BTW, I was actually asking for her - not for me to buy. She wants to put it on craigslist and was trying to figure out how much to list it for.
