Any suggestions on a fair price for a 1986VFR 750F? I'm second owner on the bike. It has 3720 miles on the odometer, fairing are in good shape (some cracks but overall very good), seat is excellent. It has been in a heated garage since I've owned it (circa 1995). Comes with aftermarket Supertrap pipes (I also have the originals), manual, plastic seat cover, etc.

The bike was last ridden in 2011. Unfortunately the gas tank rusted, and I damaged it trying to flush out the rust. Either the tank will need to be repaired, or a replacement tank found (any suggestions?). It will also need a good carb cleaning and new fuel pump (fuel pump will click once but not pump).

The engine internals are fine (as far as I can tell). The carburetors need a cleaning. It will start but not run until the fuel system issues are addressed. This is a project bike for sure, but if a replacement tank is found and carburetors cleaned it would be a good bike.

Any suggestions on a fair listing price given the low miles but fuel system issues?

    Thanks,

    Gary

Bike looks complete Gary...What exactly do you mean by the tank is damaged .....do you mean that corner section?
From what you show on the pics and the description and not knowing exactly what I'm getting myself into ( if I were the buyer ) I would say $1000.
But hey I'm in California , the land of fruits and nuts......

Lets see what the real experts on this forum say?

    Gentlemen ......

since it's the rarer 750, i'd guess an asking price of about $1400-$1500.

I'm more with SM#1 on this one. Even with the known issues, that mileage, decent plastic and 750cc gets a higher price. Some areas of the country even more than $1500.

It has... on bikes the left side is ground off on.

Also, here in the Pacific North West, VFRs bring some more money.

Jesus. I would have nabbed that in a second. I know a lot of people hear carb rebuild and tune out. Shit, a good running original VFR needs a carb rebuild anyway these days, the o-rings are toast.

Seller says "i fixed that problem and just don't have time to put it all together". HOW LONG does it take to remount a tank and put bodywork back on?? Not THAT LONG I'd think. Why wouldn't seller just do that and make a much more presentable package?? Makes ME wonder. Anyone else witrh the same thought?

I had the exact same thought. Right after I wondered how he "fixed that problem". And what the problem actually was.
