    Hi everyone.
First I'll introduce myself.. Name's Alex from canada eh. I'm 19 and in college (Mechanical Engineering).
Anyways I've been thinking of making a Kart for a little while now and when the teacher said we'd be able to do our own project in the 2nd year (and use all the school's tools) that really made me think more about it.
I figure I might as well start thinking about it now and how I'm gonna approach this project. I'm teaming up with my cousin who is also doing the same program as me.

Yeah so now you're thinking "This Dumbass kid wants to stick a 750 in a freakin kart?!"
And yeah you're right. But I just happened to pass upon a full honda f750 that needs work.. Motor and trans rebuild and he's asking 375$ Canadian.
I was more looking into a 500 or 600 but this sounds like a really good deal (prove me wrong.. that's why I'm here).

I'd like to know the history with these 1st gen interceptors and if there are any known engine problems (cooling, crank, etc).
Also is that an alright price for a 1984 F750 that only needs paint and some assembling? Motor and trans are completely rebuilt.
I might go down to check it out this weekend and see if I can manage to get 300 for it (been on sale for over a month).

    Thanks in advance..

If you got something to say then please say it and I'll gladly accept

This pains me to answer this...

Depending on the year the main thing you'll want to do is check the cam chains and make sure theya re cool... Do not under any cercamstances attempt to remove any linkages that connect the throttles to all four carbs together and for that matter do not attempot to disassemble the carbs without getting at the very least the Klymer maanual...

Check out this link it has quite a bit of the "technical" information you are looking for...

The only catch is you won't be able to run the motor in FSAE if you are building a kart you'd like to take to that competition for school (which is limited to 600cc's.)

As a MechE student FSAE can give you a lot of visability. The other key issue is to check the cams themselves. You'll want to make sure you do the oiling mod to protect the cams. A better motor if you are still thinking FSAE would be the 500cc V4 which doesn't seem to have the oiling and cam problems that the 750 and 1000 VF and V45/65 motors had. You might consider looking for an old V65 Magna as well... nothing wrong with an 1100cc kart.

If you have never driven one of these motorcycle based karts, I will tell you that the performance is brutal. They are incredibly quick, and therefore immense fun. Be prepared to learn how to weld and fabricate if you don't already have these skills in addition to basic machining. You'll put a lot of hours into doing this right, but it is rewarding. Check out the various Formula SAE forums on the Internet, you'll find tons of good information there on suspension design and other factors that you'll need to take into consideration.

Alright thank you. This is the type of stuff I'd like to find out before hand :D
Personally I'd rather something like a 500 or 600.. but this one seems so cheap and so full which is why I decided to take a look at it.

I already have most of those skills. I have a Dip. in Industrial Mechanics and now just started college. Hehe It makes it a whole lot easier.

I'd actually rather just keep the f750 but 2000$ for license plates... no thanks. Maybe when I win the lottery :D

One last tidbit... I gather that the VF500 head gaskets are hard to find/discontinued. I forgot to mention that.
