Went for a ride this a.m. on the 85 VF500F, and when I got home I noticed a bolt was missing from the seat cowl. Damn railroad track crossings.

Went to the local Ace, being pretty damn sure that's where I got them before. Nope. Must have come with the cowl originally. Looked all over the fiche, and the cowl is not listed.

Here are fotos. I think the threads are 6mm. Anyone happen to know a Honda part number, or another location where this is used?

Go to BikeBandit-86 Vf1000R-front cowl. It looks just like screw #42. The shoulder is like 6mm deep. $3.28 On the R there is a rubber collar that goes with it, don't know about the 500. If you need the shoulder to be shorter then look at Seat/rear cowl-screw #9, the shoulder is roughly 3-4mm deep. $4.80

Thanks guys. I measured the shoulder and I think it's 6mm on the nose. I'll try my local dealer to see if he has one I can look at to see if it matches. Like the idea of the rubber collar too. Might be a nice addition. I'll post back with results.

Boom-shaka-lacka! Went my Honda today to pick up the screw, and screw #42(with the 6mm shoulder as listed above) is an exact perfect match. I bought two of the corresponding rubber collars too, which I did not previously have on the bike. Great idea...I just had flat washers on there. This is no longer good as new, it's now better than new, thanks to youse guys.

I really had no idea where to start once the cowl wasn't listed on the OEM fiche. I swear...it's random, shot-in-the-dark stuff like this that makes this forum worth every penny I pay in yearly dues!

Thats the easy one to find...the "nut" that bolt goes into is the hard one!
