    Hi folks,

new to the forum here. Looking forward to hopefully contributing soon. In the meantime... a question:

Bought a brand new 2005 VFR (good deal) a couple of weeks ago, and have about 750 miles on it now.

It seems to be running super hot (always between 210-220 degrees) in normal city driving (like to work). The fan comes on, but can't get it to around the 190 range where I would expect a watercooled engine to work right. Ambient temps are mid 70s here in SoCal right now.

Do your guys' bikes run this hot too? Or is it the new engine phenomenon, in which they run hot until they're fully broken in?

If yours are running cooler, I'm guessing I have a t-stat that's only partly opening and not letting the coolant get to the rads.

    Thanks
    Karsten.

I'm up here on the central coast and My bike was hitting about 210 the other day when I would stop. It dropped when I got going a bit, but I think VFRs tend towards the hot side. There are a few other threads about this if you try to search about it... The search forums option is above in the red bar 3rd from the end.

Don't worry about those temps. I am in SoCal also and my 04 runs at the same temp range that yours does.....unless I get it to 80+ on the fwy.

My 05 is the same as yours. In stop start city driving the fan kicks in at 220 and goes of about 205 and it stays in that range all the time in slower traffic. Drops down once you are moving for a couple of minutes. Air temp doesn't need to be very high for it to operate in this range.

    Wow,

Thanks for the replies, folks! Now I'm not worried about the temps at all anymore.

    Thanks!
