Hi guys. Hoping someone can help.
    Gen 6 2002.
When idling I've noticed a knocking noise coming from the top of the rear rh cylinder. It comes and goes rythmically so to say the engine will sound normal for 10 or so seconds then there's a tapping noise like a woodpecker for a few seconds then back to normal.
I have a suspicion as to what it might be but would like someone with more experience to confirm my thoughts please.

Sounds like valves .... when was the last time you had the valve clearances inspected and adjusted?

    Never in my ownership.
Had it coming on 2 years but done less than a few hundred miles. Thought it might be the CCT but the bike has only 43k on the clock

I do not own a 6th gen but I have seen advice here that the CCT typically goes 30,000 miles. Consider that conditions vary and that your mileage is not far below this.

    * Seek out a YouTube video which you can use to verify the sound. Try this which I found on a forum, but I am at work and cannot verify the video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuBb5...e_gdata_player

    * I have read that the noise kicks in about 2,500 RPM and is clearer as the revs drop back down.

Hoping it is the CCT'S. It is only coming from the rear cylinder. Is it better to change the pair or fix as you go?

Yah, CCT could be an issue as well ... I'm assuming your ODO is in kilometers?

    43,000 km = 26,799 miles

Seems fairly low though for CCTs, then again, anything mechanical can start to fail at any given time.

Ahhhhh no we drive on the correct side but on a bike why does a side of the road matter? It's all a playground.

Some of the colours on UK bikes are so nice I would consider importing. But I don't think I would eve get used to right hand drive bikes.

Reminds me of a story when I worked as Transit Police. A teen got on the train with a BMX. I was working along side of this transit attendant guy who was kinda thick if you catch my drift.

Anyhoo. This kid was Australian, maybe a Kiwi. Don't know. Anyways, I asked him if his bike was right hand drive or left. Kid chuckled. He knew what I meant and went along and said it was right hand drive. Anyways a few minutes later he got off the train and the attendant came up to me with a very serious tone in his voice, " I didn't know that there was different bikes!"

I told him that he kinda reminded me of french pea soup. That one went over his head too. He said "I'm Italian."
