I've noticed latelty that my 6th gen seems to be running a lot hotter than in the past. Previous seasons even on very hot days in traffic the temp never got above 103/104 degrees celcius (217/218 Ferenheit).

Lately my bike has been getting up to 107c (225 f) and last week even got up to 111c (232 f).

I was into the honda dealer last week for an oil change and had them do an inspection as well. They said everything was looking fine and not to be concerned about that tempurature. It's still bothering me though.

is this normal? Why would it suddenly start running at such a higher temp after 4 years of riding it?

I'm heading out for a 3 day ride on Sunday.. I want to be sure that my bike can handle it and isn't going to blow up on me! ;)

    A couple thoughts.

Has the ambient temp in your area been hotter?
Is your fan still kicking on at 220-222* F?
When was the last time you had the coolant flushed/changed?
Check the coolant level, and it may not hurt to change the rad cap. here in the US, you can get a cap for about $8. A rad cap that starts to fail will cause all sorts of cooling problems. To me, $8 is simple, preventative maintenance. And to do it once every 3-5 years? Big deal.

111c is not terrible, but I'm one of those people that hate the hot temps.

Assuming all of the above checks out, suppose its possible your thermostat might be sticking a little.

The bike should never be reaching higher temps as long as it's moving, only in stop-and-go traffic.

My advice ? Read the post above from Pliskin carefully and fluch/change the coolant when older than 2 years.

111 degrees Celsius is nothing to worry about, but you tell us that the egine is running hotter than it was.....In that case it's better to be safe than sorry.....

These things temp gauges are too distracting.
Need to be looking ahead , not at the temp.
Switch to air temp and ride safe.

Coolant hasn't been changed in almost 3 years, but hadn't put that many miles on it when this first started happening this spring. I had only done about 6000 km. Would the coolant degrade, or lose effectiveness over time? I've done another 8000km this since it started.

I'll give the rad cap and flush a try.

When it's moving it's fine. This only happens in traffic.
