Not sure about the 86, but on my 03 it was on the back of the crank case. Went to DMV and they wanted to see it and I had no idea, had to go home and check manual and go back!
Ally, must be somewhere in behind the sidecovers?, I have this strange feeling I have seen it somewhere but can't be sure if it was on the VFR or something else
I read my 83 service manual, and engine number is stamped on the right side of the upper crankcase. Photo shows it under a clamp for a cable, in front of rear exhaust port, below VIN tag on frame. Hope the 86 is the same.
Sorry but 83 is VF, I have spent hours looking and searching for this number, Think I might just part the thing out, be easier than trying to find this stinking number, Honda must have had rocks in their heads when they did this shit, talk about dumb and dumber
Found it Ally, thanks, right hand side between the rear head and the frame, can only look down in there with a torch. Vin tag on these is up the front
