just bought 1994 VfR and I love it , I have to get rid of the miss between 2500 & 3500 rpm , I am thinking Sea foam carb cleaner in the gas as it only has 7850 miles so I am suspect the jets may have a little varnish , am I on the right track ?

My '96 is a little grumbly at that RPM range, too. It may just be the bike? It's fine over 3,000-3,500 rpm's, right? I haven't done any sort of carb maintenance yet, but before I put it up for the winter, I'll SeaFoam it.

Definitely let me know how it turns out. I just assumed the V4 didn't wake up until 3,000 rpm's.

Thats true with the Gen 5&6's, when plodding along usually use 4K as my minimum RPM especially in 4th, 5th and 6th Gears.

Well I just put on about 100 miles with the Sea Foam carb cleaner in the tank and I can't say that thier has been any emprovement , so I am thinking it is time to change the plugs next and while I am there take a look at the carb adjustments . I don't believe that Honda built a motor that won't run smooth all through the rev range unless it was a purpose built race engine . this sucker is not firing on all cylinders until it gets over 4000 rpm. ( it does sound real lumpy and nasty though , I kind of like it ) I had a mechanic tell me that if the alternator is not putting out the correct voltage that it could effect the egnition , that is news to me , but it is electronic so it could be . I WILL get to the bottom of this eventually . I will keep posting as progress is made .

OK , new plugs are installed and it runs a little better , still sounds like one cylinder is missing just as the needle starts to lift so I will probably have the carbs sync done at the shop . while I was in there I made a tank prop out of a piece of 1 1/2 inch black ABS plastic pipe , I cut it 17 1/2 long and cut a notch 1/2 inch deep with a hack saw just break out the piece with a pair of pliers. , works great .

I finely got my bike into the shop and when I picked it up I was told the carb sync was good and they checked the rectifier , voltage was good , so it was suggested I ride it with more seafoam or any other type of carb cleaner and hope that it clears up . The fact that it has only 7850 miles it is a good bet that the carbs have a little varnish in the jets from no stabilizer over the winters of sitting . At least I know that the sync and rectifier are ok . best of luck to anyone who may suffer from the same or similar problems .
