    Hi Everybody,

I am new to this website. I purchased a 2000 VFR this past January with 5700 miles on the clock. It had been well maintained and ran perfectly untill a couple weeks ago.
During a trip from Roanoke VA down the Blue Ridge parkway, I noticed that if I pulled the clutch in while traveling at about 4000-5000 and let the RPM's drop, the bike would die. I could restart it with no problem but it happened on numerous occasions. If I revved it just a little as the RPM's were dropping, it would idle at about 900-1000 (200-300 lower than normal). I had just recently changed the oil, tires, and sparkplugs at 8200 miles.
I was at pretty high elevations most of the trip (Mt. Mitchell included) and at one point on a dirt road, the temp got up to 240 degrees.

In the 2 weeks since the trip, back home in White Pine TN, I have had no such problems. I have tried to get it to do the same thing, but when I pull the clutch in while traveling along, it just settles into a 1000 RPM idle.

Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

I would take the VFR to a reputable shop/ mechanica and have your clutch fluid replaced. Sounds like there is a little air in the system and if the fluid has not been changed since 2000, its over due. Should take care of the problem. The 93 I used to have had a very similar issue.

Welcome JD! 1000 RPM sounds low to me. I can't remember the difference between 49 state and 50 state models, however, your idle speed seems like it should be at least 1200-1300RPM once it is warmed up.
