    How is battery?
    Have battery load checked
Check wiring at 30 amp fuse by battery
Check wiring to and from stator and r/r

1st thing I'd check is the neg connection at the battery. Sounds like it could be a loose ground. Start with the easiest to diagnose first.

My first thought was this sounds like classic symptoms of a failing battery... But?

Basically the trip and clock will start to reset when available power drops below a threshold. HOWEVER normally this happens when starting the bike - but you say its happening just after you turn the bike off? Which seems unusual and perhaps points to something more serious. Like a short circuit or constant power drain, or even a fried stator. Yes it probably still means the battery is on its last legs but its quite possible this could also flag up more serious electrical/charging issues - especially if your bike is a model manufactured in 2005?

You say its a 2006 model. I would be astonished if it is still equipped with the original Honda Yuasa fit battery, but if so a replacement battery is well overdue. Normally if you use a bike regularly you might be lucky to get 5 years out of a battery, though 3 is about average.

I wonder whether your VFR is the updated model introduced in 2006 (the one with clear front indicator lenses and uprated charging system) or if it is actually an 05 model which was first registered in 2006? You can tell for sure from the code on the sticker under the seat by the tank/if the front indicator lenses are orange - then its probably an 05 version. The difference is important as Honda updated much of the charging system on 06 and later models in response to a growing crop of electrical issues on the earlier vtec models.

The point being all three key components of a motorcyle charging system must work in harmony (alternator(stator), RR (regulator rectifier) and battery - and a fault in one can quickly cause issues(death) with the other two.

Rather than simply replace/recharge the battery I think its worth spending time with a multi-meter to check out the charging system.

This thread explains how to do this far better than I can..

Good luck - let us know what you find.
