Yeah, went to Dynotunemotorsports and got my bike dyno'd!!! Woot, I broke 100hp!

I will upload a scan tomorrow. For now, just a photo of a print out will do.

I have a 2000 VFR800 with 18561 miles. It is completely stock except for a micron CF slip-on. It does have new spark plugs and a new air filter (stock). It was about 80 degrees outside today, but there was a breeze and it felt good. So the run seems like a very good sample of my bike on any given day.

    101.0hp @ 11114 rpm First run
    101.7hp @ 11162 rpm Second run

    52.22tq @ 9217rpm First Run
    52.77tq @ 9146rpm Second Run

Very smooth hp climb, with no dips. TQ curve, I can't say so much.

    cool beans.

I checked out their website...did you talk to them at all about doing custom maps? Says FROM $150. Just curious. I'm looking for a place to get my bike done at, but I want a custom map and not just a a few pulls. Only dyno's CLOSE to me are at Harley Dealers. There is a tuner in Detroit that is an ex road racer which is where I'd like to get mine done at but info is hard to find on the net. Columbus would be quite the hall for me. Do you know if they do mobile dyno work as well? Like at track days and what not?

yeah, if you have a powercommander, they will do custom maps, and it was fairly cheap. They are great guys. They were very careful with all the bikes and really knew there stuff.

I think it was an hour of tuning for $150?

Hondajt, Thanks for sharing the info, the shop that you used seems to be on the level.
Some of these Dyno shops like to show their customers big HP numbers, but these guys seem to be "real world". Your HP numbers seem to be about what a decent Y2K
bike makes. Do you still have your catalytic converter on the bike,it would be interesting to see what kind of increases you would get with a set of 1999 exhaust headers, also would like to know how much a well tuned power commander would help the cause.
I would be pretty satasfied with 102hp from your machine ,sounds to me like your engine is in very nice condition. eddie

So what is the correct shift point then, 9,146rpm since that is max torque?

    Interesting. My '99 California bike only hit 94.5 hp @ 10700 rpm & 53 ft-lbs at 8350 rpm.

The '06 numbers they provided for comparison weren't much different though so maybe it was the dyno. BTW, they wanted about $300 for a custom map!

One of the local sportbike dealers nearby had an open house last week and had their mobile dyno there.

My bike pulled 99.11 hp in the best of four pulls. The other three pulls were all above 97hp, Surprised me, I would not have thought it would pull much over 90.

I'm no engine bulder with lots of time and experience with dyno machinery, but I have to wonder about dyno figures, since there are lots of dynos out there.

I did watch two different CBR 954s pull around 125hp each after mine came off, and one guy was kinda pissed since he had just bought it and the previous owner was supposed to have done all these engine mods.

Best part about watching these things is watching the bike owners when their bike is up there howling away. You can tell some guys are wanting that big number really badly. Not to mention you always get the "we can sell you tons of cool shit to get those numbers up" speil from the guys running the machine..... hey whatever works to make a sale these days I guess.

It was also kind of nice that the guys running the machine commented a number of times on my "nice old VFR" heehee, They were all pretty much young guys and I got to thinking they probably think my bike is ancient.

Bottom line........we all ride underpowered heavy machines that are a bit of an oddity. By todays standards bikes like mine are at best footnotes in bike history. I see myself in a short time moving on to another bike, but this one is still a keeper, maybe because it just is what it is. Haahaaahaaa

yeah i would definitely be pissed if my 954 only made 125!
the rc51's are doing that with 2 less cylinders and only a few more cc's

As far as the question about the shift point if the bike makes max. torque at 9,146 RPM,then you would want to shift it @ 10,060 RPM's. This was told to me by a pretty
famous car engine builder, his reasoning was that you should move your shift point up
+10% because it would put you in a better RPM range after you shifted to the next higher gear. Like just about anything this is a compromise, but who am I to doubt this guy,he's got more dyno time and track time then any 20 people that I know in motorsports. eddie

Just a few observations concerning the chart.

I am suspicious that there is an issue with the indicated RPM with which the machine attained the max hp. I have seen many dyno charts of 5g and 6g machines and max hp is attained in the 10k to 10.5k range. The enhancement of the rpm by 600 rpm is significant in the calculation.

the formula is as follows: Torque X RPM / 5252 and that's physics..not some voodoo number.

So using the 11,162 rpm number and the indicated 47.71 torque number you should get 11,1162 X 47.71, or 532,539, divided by 5252 which comes out to 101.397 hp (btw, not the 101.7 indicated)

So let's say you actually did hit the max hp number at a non corrected rpm of 10,500... 10,500 X 47.71, or 500,955. divided by 5252, which comes out to 95.3837 hp.

Pretty significant difference between 11,1162 rpm's and 10,500 rpms, 101.397 v. 95.383. The numbers for the max torque run don't calc out either......

You wouldn't have happened to mention to the dyno operator that you thought your machine made around 100hp did you?
