well i did it. traded in my aging 02 fz1 for a new 07 interceptor. with the dealer incentive and discount i couldnt resist. i really like the bike so far but am wondering if i may have a problem. it seems difficult to get a smooth shift unless i wind it out to 6 or 7 k. so i thought i,d check freeplay at the rear tire. on the center stand, motor off and the bike in 1st gear i am getting 2 inches of play at the tire. is this normal or do you think i,m just not used to how it shifts yet. thanx in advance.
I remember thinking the same of mine when I got it. The snatchy throttle exaggerates the problem. I have long since gotten used to it and I for one think the Power Commander helped the bike alot.
Congrats and welcome to the forum. If memory serves you should be getting 1 3/8". That said, VFR's in stock form don't like it much below 5000rpm. 6000r's is actually a natural shifting point on this bike and you won't be doing any damage. I usually try to cruise at 5500r's or so. I would just break it in and if you have any issues afterward (especially the power drop at 5200rpm and the surging at off-idle speeds) then follow Toe's advice and get a power commander. The 6th gen VFR, as with a lot of bikes these days, is greatly benefited by a fuel management system. An inexpensive gearing change can also do wonders depending on your riding style.
