My new-to-me '07 is coming up on 16k miles.

I don't want to re-start the whole entire talk about whether or not to check the valves, or skip it. I'm on the fence about that part (though I do remember someone saying that since it's $700-$800 to do it every time, they had checked on the price of a new engine, and figured it was cheaper after X miles and X number of intentionally-missed valve adjustments to go ahead and buy a new engine if they were beyond fixable. Interesting way to look at it.)

I was just looking for some advice from one rider/self-taught garage tech to another. I've always done all the valve adjustments on all my other VFs/VFRs and inline 4s, and was wondering from those that have done it how hard it is to do. Yes, I have the OEM service manual, but I'm looking for folks who have done it, or experienced folks who have said "No thanks. I'll let the pros handle the VTEC ones."

Toe Cutter said you couldn't pay him enough in dead hookers to do a vtec valve adjustment again.

I'm pretty sure that's a direct quote. Not sure exactly what it means but it doesn't sound pleasant either way.

Tink, I think it might have been 'live' whores. But you've got the idea. TC is not on the list of people to call if you want someone to do it or help you do it.

Wgregt, you might want to PM Toe Cutter for his personal opinion.

I know this is an ongoing debate. But people can keep adding new stories and perspectives to the discussion. Anybody else want to share valve stories on 6th gens?

I will disassemble the bike and remove the frame the next go around, while doing the valves the tensioners will go and a through cleaning, polishing, and inspect and lubricate the rear suspension. Winter project.

Your thoughts on checking the VTEC valves, TC? I spoke to the tech @ the dealer (who I know pretty well) and he said in 5 years of doing VTEC valve checks on various models/years and various mileages, he's not come across a single one that ever had valves that needed adjusting.

So, I'll probably wait. Still like to hear your horror story though. If it's here on another post, point me in that direction...

I did one with 127k and it was fine. I would ride until an issue. The super charger has me a bit worried how the valves are holding up but normally aspirated your probably good for the duration of your owning it.

I have my Silver VFR done at 16k all in spec rode her to 60K and have no issue. My Black I skip the 16k and inspect at 32K no adjust to be made. Now she is over 60K ....Very happy with my VFRs

HA! You obviously don't know how I am with bikes. My garage is a motorcycling Black Hole: Bikes come in, and never leave (get sold) again. I'll probably be buried with them.

PS I bought a cage new in '88. Over half a million miles on that as well now. Gonna be a really big hole in the ground one day....
