Ok, I’m going to ask a potentially stupid question. I’m in the process of doing a custom under tail exhaust system for my 5th Gen, what I have in mind is using something like a CBR 600rr can. (more an aftermarket oval shaped can) What I’d like to ask is, does it make any real difference in terms of sound and or performance gain or loss by using a can from another make/model/ engine cc size? i.e back pressure etc Cheers Daniel
Make & Model doesn't matter, But CC's does, as is determines back pressure, so I wouldn't go more then 50cc's lower them your motor size, unless, the can/cans are after market (free'r flowing). Larger CC's may be louder & or more free flowing, & if your motor is carbed then you risk having to rejet the carbs.
I am on board with APITT. If you have FI it can compensate "some" for a more open exhaust. Do not get anything that is stock from a smaller bike. I think our stock mufflers have a 1.75" core with baffling, so even a 1.75" straight muffler would flow more and provide more sound. Jose
