I've been searching the forum for an hour now and cannot find anything on how to mod the air intake box and pros and cons to that mod. I know they are on here somewhere, just not finding them. Help me out please, links work just fine for me.

I did the pair valve, didn't bother with flapper, put on Power Controller III which recommends putting resistors in (330 Ohms) to disconnect O2 sensors. That evened out the low end up to 3K RPM. There are a lot of threads you can search on Google about modifying the air box, snorkel, opening top, etc. From what I gathered was leave the air box alone, mods don't do much except make it louder.

I don't mind the suspension as it sits. Rides just fine to me. But i get where your sound advice is coming from.

I had done the flapper and snorkel removal but eventually put it all back together. I also have a PCV with K&N and 2Bros Exhaust, but it seemed like the only "benefit" I got from the removal of those two devices, was just more intake noise. I would listen to Tink and upgrade the suspension, I did for both my VFRs and can say it was money well spent!

PC3 is definite future mod. I just figured, DIY is free or next to free. I always enjoy a fun little DIY project. I'd never heard of the pair valve thing so bonus there.

I seriously doubt any mods to the airbox are going to make any noticeable difference what so ever to performance. That extra 0.05 hp or whatever isn't going to be felt. Other than an extra "woosh" noise as the intake becomes more audible. So I guess there will be a placebo effect and you will convince yourself the bike's faster.

Short of a compressor of some sort, no amount of holes drilled or snorkels pulled is going to make your bike faster.

Yeah, that seems to be the general concensus. Probably not worth messing with. I'll just save for a PCV.

The air box article. ??? Seriously?? I think the writer needs more experience with carbs and modifying them in the real world. Really.

I would not use that article for any kind of a good argument against air box alterations.

It's not fantastic and it has an emphasis on carbs over FI. However, it does make correct points on air velocity and differential pressures which does apply.

Fact of the matter is; Honda doesn't spend a shit pile of money into engineering and manufacturing air boxes with sophisticated devices in order to make bikes cost more and slow squids down.

Article does not have a link to their home page, if you go to www.thunderproducts.com, it appears they have a lot of practical experience.
