The new VFR 1200 is a let down for me. Read the articles, seen the specs and all the photos. I dunno, I look at it and it doesnt excite me in the least. Got a lot of bells and whistles, but it fails to impress. Whatever. Gonna go buy a Busa this spring instead.

Now thew flurry of posts about the VFR's virtues... and how I must be an asshole for not bowing down and worshiiping at the Alter of Honda. Can't wait. Yippeeee. How exciting that will be.

A lot of us are not all that crazy over the way they went with this bike. Search the forum a bit. Wait till ya see what some of the rest of us had to say.

Did you take one for a test ride? I hate the aesthetics of the new 1200 but I would not declare myself "disappointed" without having personal seat time. NEVER take a motorcycle for it's face value.

I was pleased that it did so well in the hands of Cycle World and Motorcyclist. I should also add that our member Richard Thompson's pictures are better than any others I've seen, with regard to showing different views that give a better perspective.

As vfrhusband pointed out, much has been written about what current owners would have liked to see versus what Honda chose to do. More displacement/power, less weight, adjustable suspension and no VTEC seemed to be towards the top of most people's list. But the road tests make it sound like Honda did a decent job of delivering a good package.

But to each his own. I think a Hayabusa would be a blast, although I seem to have visions of speeding tickets and rear tires if I ever owned one. Or a CBR1100XX, or a ZX14...

Agreed, to each his own. But I see the Hyabusa about as inspired, if not less than the new VFR. the New VFR seems to have become 'just another bike' with a tour-de-force' of innovation. I'd have to say, as an owner of a new gen 6 VFR, the 'real' VFRs ended at Gen 5. (I did it for the paint.... but still looking for a clean Gen 3 or 5) Seems Gen 6, honda not only went chain drive cams (assuming everyone forgot about the early cam failures) but emphasized much more of the touring end of 'sport-touring'. I for one, would love to see a sportier version of the V4 in a bike NOT compared to the Kawi Concours. I would love to see a sport bike that can be a tourer rather than a tourer that might be able to act as a sport. And that's despite the fact that my 40 yr old wrists hurt after riding my Daytona 675.

Your post sort of conflicts with your "Rocket of Choice" and your "Wish List" bikes.

This may not be too exciting but I can remember when I was around six or seven going through old stacks of National Geograpic Magazines looking for titty pictures. I was thinking at the time that if that was what sex was all about I was having no part of it. Then I got laid. Man, does that change one's perspective.

I am somewhat disapointed that as yet there are no titty pix up yet using the 1200 as part of the theme.

I guess I found the styling uninspiring to me. You're right, to each his own. Thats why all bikes don't look the same. Honda has other models that just looking at them, get my blood pumping. The CBR1000RR for example. That bike just looks like it's gonna kick your ass. . . part of buying a bike (for me) is to look and make me feel like my MotoGP heroes, and have fun on it at the same time. Maybe this 'touring' thing isn't for me, cause thats what the VFR1200 looks like to me. It looks like a bike thats for the "I have a wife and kids" crowd and (for me) doesn't seem to make me feel like I bought something special (Yes, I have a wife and kids). And why couldn't Honda build something that would compete w the Hayabusa and the ZX14? Why not try to muscle your way into that tier? Maybe a VFR1400? I dunno. . . maybe some of ya can relate to me on this.

I could go to my dealer right now, buy a Hayabusa or ZX for less money and PROMISE YOU I'd get a whole lot more respect on it and knowing I have one of the fastest bikes ever built, and beat the VFR1200 in a race at the same time.

The VFR1200 is anti climactic for me. Okay, it's got some cool technical advances I'll give it that much. But when I was waiting to see what Honda would do, like take it to the next level, maybe they did for some, but not far enough for me. I dreampt that our boys at Honda would turn the MC world on its head. And when this was revealed, I said "WTH is this?"

I don't think Honda accomplished much here. They gave us 437cc's more but could have gone farther and really pushed the envelope. I think they played it too safe.

    Hayabusa = 12k ZX14=14k VFR1200 = 16k Is it worth it, really?

The VFR1200 is a Hayabusa/ZX14 wannabe. I still love the look of the VFR800 (RWB) and will prob get one soon.

I won't flame you. On paper, the new VFR is not that impressive compared to the decades before.
I do think it needs a test ride next year.

I'm a bit disappointed with the VFR1200, also. Since seeing it at the NYC show, I've been looking at other options, including the Multistrada 1200. Haven't yet made up my mind but, so far, the new VFR has not won me over. Looks aren't everything, but it's just so plastic cheesy, and way too metro-sexual for my taste. But I agree, a test ride is in order prior to making a final determination. We'll see.

Asshole? Maybe, but not because you dont care for the new VFR, but because you want a Busa! Get a ZX14, it's a much better bike. And yes, I've road both.

I too am disappointed in the new 1200. When I heard it has a non-adjustable suspension, no grip heaters, no cruise control for the big money they are asking...how can you not say it's overpriced and be a little disappointed?

Check your facts. The supension is adjustable. Price wise for the price of two of these puppies I could get a Harley with grip heaters, cruise and 643 plastic conchos. The solution in this instance is to spring for a Wing.

Cruise control on a bike? Might be OK in parts of Wyoming, Montana, Kansas and Nebraska.

A little factoid on the new 1200 that hasn't been explored here yet is the weight of the bike was made with all fluids and a full tank of gas. So, if we compare that with what a 750-800 weighs with the same load it indicates the new 1200 ain't quite the porker as some have discribed.

just saw the new vfr at the show in daytona..........it really looks better in person and i was very impressed by the fit and finish.........i too was not a fan of the styling....and wished for a more sporty version.....but i was surprised...i think the 16000 $ ..without bags..puts me off more then anything else.....and they had to make them look worse by showing some of the old vfr classics....

Ya gotta ride the bike before you make any decisions, just like any bike. We don't know a thing without a ride.

The best part about the "reviews" is the preponderance of how fast the bike (s) are and how the OP could whupass on a racetrack. Most of those dudes have their asses glued to a bar stool ,wearing nametags that say "Hi, my name is Mad Dog."
