Difficulty Removing Screw Under Mirror

Hi,

has anyone experienced difficulty removing the screw from under the mirror that hold's up the windshield? it appears that the threads that hold the screw are stripped and i absolutely cannot get the screw out, I have also stripped the screw-head. I think it might be some kind of plastic/rubber nut holding the screw in.
