hello all. what would be the result of putting a different battery into a vfr. the idea i have is to put a cbr600rr gel battery into my '88 vfr 750fj. the charging figures are 190 cranking amps (original battery has 165), 0.9A regular charge current (original has 1.2A) 8.6Ah capacity (original has 12Ah). The reason is that i've done a cbr600rr rear end conversion and the battery tray wont hold the vfr original battery. I'm guessing that it might affect the r/r but i don't know for sure. Anybody got any ideas?
As long as everything is connected up correctly you really shouldn't have any R/R issues. Ideally you would want to go with the largest battery that will fit.
Battery Question ... Hello: Just for frame-of-reference, I own an '89 "FK," an identical bike. I'm not certain why you would want to reduce the Ah capacity of the battery in your FJ. Although it is not a direct measure of the energy in a battery, the ampere hours rating (Ah) is related to how much energy is stored in a battery. That is to say, the Ah rating reflects the amount of charge transferred by a constant current of one amp for one hour. As you simply must know, these bikes are hard on the regulator/rectifiers. If it were me, I would not want to "tamper" with the battery within an already fragile charging system. I have often wanted to locate a gel battery for my bike. Any investigation/research I've done has resulted in the conclusion, "forget it." Gray Market
