    Hello everyone.

Spring is almost here in Ontario and its time to get the VFR battle ready for another season.

My question is about the chain. I bought my bike last spring with only 12000 km on it. At the time the chain has some tight spots that wouldn't go away with cleaning and lube. Not knowing the history of the bike I decided to replace sprocket and chain. I bought steel Sunstar sprockets (stock tooth number) and new DID 530 chain.

The problem is, it didn't change anything. I still have the exact same problem. I don't see any frozen links, but when I slowly spin the back tire the slack on the chain changes. I set the tension so I have slack at the tightest spot but of course this makes it too loose at others. I put several thousand kilometers on the new chain last year without any improvement.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm sure this isn't normal and I'd like to make it right for this riding season. I'm pretty careful with my stuff and it bother me knowing the set up isn't right.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Who replace the chain and sprocket? It might have been over squeeze the rivet during install, This will cause kinks on the link. This happen to me when I install my first kit. DID xring gold. Check every link to see if they move freely.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I bought the chain at the local Honda dealership. The guy at the parts desk it pretty cool and gave me break on the price. I do most/all of my own work but I don't have the chain break/rivet tool. I asked how much for them to replace the sprocket and chain. Quoted me 3hrs labour at $85 an hour:eek:

So I passed on that one. The proper tool was going to run approx $100. I found
another shop who would install the chain for me at a much better price. I put the new sprockets on, drove slowly to the shop (4min drive) and they took off the old chain and installed the new one.

This makes it a bit confusing as far as who I should go after. Sometimes it's a PITA to be so cheap.

Are there any other possibilities for my problem or is tight links the only possibility. Just trying to narrow the cause a little.

Thank-you so much. You guys/girls are awesome.

Could you possibly have a wheel bearing issue? If the chain is new and not pinched at the master you may want to look closely at the sprocket and make sure it is true as it turns.
