I have the opportunity to buy a 2002 VFR800 with 43k on it. Its listed at $3000 but in September and with winter bearing down here in Wisconsin I think I can get it for around $2500. It has Micron exhaust with power commander, rebuilt forks, new tires, and zero gravity windscreen. Bike has been professionally painted to a dark charcoal gray.

Is the mileage too high for the price? or am I looking at a soild deal?

    Any advise would be great

$2500 is a good deal if the bike is clean no crack fairing. Go get it before it gone
    Good luck

You might want to look inside under the fairing for any visual damaged. I am not to excited when the bike is repaint unless I know for the fact it professional paint without any previous accident

Long is right, and any repainted bike raises warning flags for me also.

Agree with above. Prior to going to look at it, let the owner know you want to see behind the panels. The two side panels should tell the story well enough. They are not that hard to take off and put on to secure a sale.

Painting could just mean the paint is worn out as in my case, but when you see new paint, you need to investigate.

Two and a half words: Pre-purchase inspection. If you're not an experienced mechanic or gearhead, take it to a honda dealership and pay for the inspection (usually 50-100 bucks). Obviously only do this if you're really serious about the bike. My two cents.

Thanks for help guys. It has documentation for a professional paint job but I will still look for damage from a crash or drop. If everything checks out is 3000 still a decent deal or should I stick with the 2500 number?

Custom paint always makes me nervous. Even with documentation something prompted the strip down and re-paint. The miles are kind of high too. I would shoot for the low number especially since winter is just around the corner.

Is the bike worth $3K? Sure. However in my neck of the woods, $3K can get a newer one with farkles and lower miles. It's not what it is worth that is important, it's about how much you are getting for your money.

You raise an interesting point about "value" or how much something is worth in a given market. It seems to me that in larger markets where the number of potential buyers are high and where their incomes also tend to be high the prices remain strong. Around here a 6th gen in good condition would be an absolute steal at $3000. In the Dallas area $3000 is pretty much rock bottom for a decent sport ride and usually, bikes at that price will have a few defects.

Did you get a chance to look at the back side of the fairing panels? So long as the bike is in decent shape, and you are happy you got what you paid for, then $28 sounds cool. Everyone has an opinion on a value of a bike but usually there is only one person with the cash who's opinion really counts. Now put some plates on that bitch, some fresh fuel in the tank and ride 'r like a two bit hoar.

Getting a 6th gen under 3k is a steal IMO with any mileage. Hell, the bike will go 200k+ miles if taken care of. I don't sweat crashed bikes as long as they are put back together and ride right. Crashing happens if a bike is ridden a lot (or sometimes even if not).

VFR Left Side.jpg VFR Back.jpg Yes I checked the panels and they all looked good. The bike was never laid down. I have 500 miles on it already and I love it, I am 6' 7" and it has plenty of room for me. However, the reviews proved true and I am in the market for a seat.

    Also,

    -Where is the helmet lock?
-Where can I find a electronic owners manual?
-How hot do these bikes normally run? I live in the city and it gets into the 200's when traffic is slow. She runs 170 on the highway at 70 mph.

The paper service manuals are only about 20-30 on ebay and well worth it at that. I have yet to find a helmet lock on my 6th Gen I use one of these that I keep in the tank bag if I don't have my Givi's on.

As far as temp that's about where mine runs here in the PNW

Helmet locks with the bags on are pointless. I'm in Northern IL and that's about the same temp I run, even when I run up into WI on the SW corner of the state. As Dfns says, you may get lucky and score one on eBay, or back to the dealership to order a new one.
