Hey i have spent a year or two restoring a Vf500 magna.
I Took it for a 2km drive yesterday finally, The radiator cap blew off and it over heated.

I got a new rad cap now the engine is %ucked. the oil pressure light comes on untill it hits 5,000rpm and it makes some knocking marble noises in the bottom end.
My question is- is that from the overheat or do i have oil system problems aswell?

I will be buying a new bottom end/ but the oil thing has me stumped. is it from the overheat?

it prolly got so hot the oils viscosity dropped to the point it wasnt able to protect the bearings any more and chances are you have a bearing failure at this point...

my #1 suggestion to all older vfrs is to change the radiator or at least have a radiator shop check out the original. but since your got so hot chances are the damage goes well beyond the bottom end you prolly have head warpage issues and cam issues now as well best thing to do imo is to find a new known good condition motor or rebuild the one you have and make sure you double and triple check the cooling system..

Agreed - couldn't say it any better.

Except I wouldn't suggest a rebuild of the old.
