I remember a while back of a problem with a bike that would cut out after a certain amount of time, but would start straight up again without any problems. I can't remember but I think it was something to do with the pulse coils. Anybody remember? I'm thinking of picking up an 86 and this is a problem the seller says it has.
Not good news. Same happened to my '86 700; OK for first 15 -20 minutes until engine reached op temp then quits, and it was pulse coil problem !! Only one coil failed on mine, but that's enough. You're gonna find OEM replacements rare, so best try salvage yards b4 you buy that old slapper.
Thanks Squirrel, I missed out on the bike but there is a good chance the new owner might turn up here looking for answers :congratulatory: Anyway while on the pulse coil problem, is the only problem with fitting other pulse coils the mounting, from what I understand with them they are just a magnetic sensor to send a impulse to the CDI unit, is this correct?
Other pickup coils from mid-80's Sabres or Magna might work if they have the same resistance. Alot of heat-related electrical problems are failing ignition coils, failing CDI, failing battery voltage due to r/r. Dija check the fuel tank vent ?
