I salvaged a Black Pearl 06 VFR last year that had been dumped on the left side after only 600 miles. My dream bike was a liter Vtwin, SV1000, Ducati Monster, et al, but the VFR was on my top ten list, mostly because of availability on the used market, and high reliability. I stuck a little under a grand into getting the bike rideable- new peg, brake rotor, mirror, clutch lever, front axle, and some misc. hardware. The only upgrade is the Convertibars. I left the damaged plastic in place thinking I'd sell the bike at a profit and go after my dream bike. But after 8K total, and 1200 miles on the bike at a three day sportbike rally last weekend where I indulged some serious edge-of-the-tire peg dragging, ragged roads, and Columbia Gorge winds, I decided my dream bike needs to be as comfortable, competent and predictable as my VFR. Obviously then, the shortest path to my dream bike is to trick out the VFR. My current (8/28/07) vision includes (besides the convertibars)... Copper paint job (see Suzuki SV1000S) Color matched hugger/chainguard Seat cowl and passenger handle mount covers Iridium double bubble windscreen Non-fugly mirrors Remus Titanium slip ons Throttlemeister or equivalent Tailight modulator Bluetooth audio transceiver K&N or equivalent air filter O2 mod Quick release soft bag system My riding includes daily slab commutes in dry weather (cold or hot), day rides on local twisties and sweeper roads, weekend destination rides, and a few long tours. A lot of you have complained about the stock seat but I have found it to be perfect for my fat butt, so I'm sticking with it until it wears out. Also, the Cheeto the Princess Cat likes it... I invite you to recommend other mods, specific solutions, how to's, or other ideas. I want something plainly unique but don't want to alter anything that inhibits performance, handling, or comfort/ergos, e.g. lowering, lowered rearsets, added weight. Thanx for your input.
