I have responded to a LOCAL Craigslist ad, turns out the seller has moved out West, selling an 02 Honda motorcycle cheap. Belonged to late husband, bad memories, etc. She says the unit is packed in a container because the prospective buyer couldn't get funds. Says I pay with Google Wallet and have 5 days to inspect & test ride. Does this sound kosher? I'm just not familiar with this type of transaction so of course am somewhat uneasy. Advice, please.

All kinds of scams on CL these days. My Ex called a couple of weeks ago and said our former house, which has listed with a Broker, was on CL for rent!!! I tagged ad for deletion and it finally disappeared. Turns out scammers were copying MLS listings and turning them into rental ads! Of course they wanted first and lasts months rent first to secure rental.

    Copy of the message:

"Hi again, the thing is I'm selling this bike because my husband passed away not long ago (he was very sick) and this bike brings me bad memories and that's the reason why I want to sell it asap...I along with my daughter decided to sell the house and we moved to my parents in Sioux City,IA trying to start a new life. The bike is already at the shipping company in the container, sealed and ready for delivery.. The bike is there already because someone agreed to buy it, but in the end he never got the loan. For this reason, the shipping is already paid.I will use Google Wallet in this transaction for our protection. If you are not aware of this program, you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the bike before paying me.The inspection period will be set to 5 days and I think is enough for you to make a decision about the bike. If you won`t like my bike, you notify Google Wallet and you send the bike back on my expense. But I assure you it won't be the case. If you want to continue the purchase, please reply with your full name, delivery address and phone number so I can start the transaction with Google Wallet and ask them to send you the terms of this transaction. ( with no further obligation or fees)."

Every word of it spells SCAM. I replied to one over a year ago know it was a scam and several times a week ever since I have sent him an email asking if the maggot was still sucking air or dying of cancer. Probably wasting my time but I feel better every time I send him another one. Reminds me I'll send him another one now

The biggest problem with cybersecurity is that the human keeps letting the virus enter the machine.

A few weeks back I found a ZX-14 on cyclesoup. It turned out to be the same scam, same theme, many of the same words. Lady lost her husband in Afghanistan, she was in the Airforce, had shipping for free from Hawaii, free shipping return in 5 days, was selling through eBay/PayPal, family advised her to sell it and move on. As they say, when the deal is to good to be true it usually is!

    Best Regards.....George

How true, as we see thousands of computers in hundreds of countries crippled by ransomware this weekend. Do not assume that an email is safe just because it appears to be from someone you know and trust.

Like most things the problem usually lies with the chair/keyboard interface.
