I have a 1990 VFR with 19,000mi on the clock. I was thinking about doing a coolant flush on it although I'm not sure if it really needs one yet. I read the service manual where it says to remove the two small bolts that are on the front cylinder next to the exhaust manifolds. Is this necessary? I think they have some kind of washer on them that looks greenish in color and I'm not sure if they should be replaced when removed. Are they copper or rubber? I was not able to find any mention of the bolts in the parts list for the bike on any site. Also, Honda recommends not using automotive coolant due to some of them having silicate in them. I have read everything on some of the 50/50 mixes and did not see that as an ingrediant. It apparently hurts the aluminum parts in the water pump although the bottle of coolant says it is "safe for all engines made of any metal". Is this true or should I stick with a Honda product like I useually do? Thanks for the help in advance. Nick.
