Hi- I recently purchased a used 2000 VFR which turned out to be a California-spec. Never thought that would happen to me, and too late now. But I'm wondering if anyone has gone through the process of converting to 49-state by changing out the cams, throttle bodies, and PGM-FI blackbox. I've already taken the evap canister and vacuum lines out. Is it worth the bother? The bike runs strong as is, and I'm going to put in a Power Commander to take care of the classic 4500-rpm flat spot. I'll be on the lookout for an engine from a crasher to get the parts, if people tell me it's worth it Thanks for any wisdom you can send my way- Keith
I think the canister and evap lines and selonoid are the only difference, I did mine and runs fine. I dont find any other mention in the factory manual about 49 state vs Cal. Just make sure you vacuum lines from it are plugged and stashed away. Oh for the gas tank - I grabbed that steel piece across the fuel inlet, twisted it sideways, and with a dowel rod bent it out of the way. No more blockage for the pump nozzle!
