    Hey guys,

I just finished a ride on my 5th Generation VFR from Denver to Chicago, and whoa what a great time. I had a buddy go with me and we picked up some communication blue-tooth headsets that we mounted to our helmets.

We picked up the Camos BTS 300's. just over $200USD a piece. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-intercoms/imc-camos-bts-300/
    1. They work great to pairing with your ipod/iphone to take calls or listen to music.
    2. They worked only 20% of the time for actual bike to bike communication. But when it did, it was truely awesome. It was great to hit the national parks and call out deer or just yell out "whoa that was cool".

Unfortunately as mentioned above, the communication part only worked 20% of the 3 day trip.

We are now looking at spending the winter researching and getting a new solid set of camera and communication equipment. Are there any recommendations for equipment that works well? I have been trying to dig up what the Ewan and Charlie used on Long way Down, but haven't found a whole lot.

Any recommendations is much appreciated. OR if I end up finding more links etc, I can post here as well.

Over the summer a friend and I took an eight day trip up and down the California coast. We used this radio

Midland Radio - Midland Radio | Communication Solutions For Your World

    and this headset:

Midland Radio - Midland Radio | Communication Solutions For Your World

The setup worked great. The VOX did not work well at all so we switched to the push-to-talk buttons on the first day. We strapped these to the left hand-grip which worked really well.

The only improvement I would make is to get custom ear plugs with speakers and wire them into the Midland headset. I had some trouble hearing my buddy on the radio at high speed from the wind noise.

Thank you for sharing, that sounds like a great cost-effective solution that works. When you said you strapped them to the hand grips, is there a push-button toggle that came with the headset? Or were you talking about the actual radio itself?

    Cheers,

The actual radio went in the tank bag, the push-to-talk button was zip tied to the left hand grip.

I've been using the following products for about a year now with excellent results:

    1) Cardo Scala Rider Q2 Multiset - excellent bike-to-bike communication, has an FM radio, and GPS and phone via Bluetooth.

    2) GoPro Hero Wide video/still camera (an HD version is now available).

Both of these products are dirt cheap considering the feature sets they provide.
