i bought a 84 vf700f runs awesome. tires are bald, chain and spockets wore out. fork seals gone...I decided that fork seals should be the first thing to fix. I bought a clymer book..In my opinion that book is mental. Its order of operation is all screwed up. I dont know if the forks were junk to start out with or what but i pulled the forks apart disregarding everthing the clymer said because like i said its mental. The seals leak like a lactating goat. I coated everything with oil before assembling. I used a pvc pipe to put the seals in and yeah they worked for mabey a week and now they weep like a willow tree. and to top it all off there is a clunking in one of the forks.
Did i mess the bushings up...if so where can i get them?

You don't need a new bushing the original should of been fine.I've done my forks on SV and they are pretty much universal.
I suspect that you inserted the seals in wrong direction. When installed wrong way up they do leak.

AS a tip learned from experience when installing new seals use the old seals to drive in the new ones.
You should not directly use force on new ones since you could damage and them being seals become pointless.
Make sure you insert those thin mental rings which keeps the seals in place.Unfortunately there is no short cuts.
If I were you I would get the owners manual to be sure all pieces are there and nothing missing and put every piece back in correct order which should eliminate the clunking.

just wanted to add that correct amount of fork oil is critical.Check the manual.Get all the oil out measure before putting in the forks.
You may need to pump few times to get the air bubbles out.
Let us know how it goes.Don't get frustrated just take it easy and do it methodically

i just got really busy with work and havnt had the time to get to my dads and redo the forks. I was thinking of mabey sending them to jamie and have him go through them and install gold valves and make sure everything else is good.. I have a feeling the guy i bought the bike from tried putting seals in it himself because when i had them apart there was rtv all over inside and shims and washers that didnt belong there and washers that should have been there. When i put the forks back together i just did it in the order of which they came apart,, This is prolly why the clymer book made me angry
